And For The Little Samantha Jones

I am one to critique about child-rearing.

I don’t have a child, nor do I plan on having one anytime soon.

My interaction with kids is limited to making faces at them in the supermarket, playing with my cousins until they either want mommy or need a diaper change, and teaching them the pine cone trick.

Still have, I have enough “womanly” authority to comment about the following–baby high heels. And they have my name, not happy.

When I first read this story, my emotions were a mixture of disgust and confusion. I was disgusted in the way that Angela from The Office likes posters of babies doing grown-up things, it’s just weird, really uncomfortably weird. The creators say that shoes are supposed to “bring as many smiles and as much laughter to your life as they have to ours.” If the smiles and laughter are because of comments such as this

“Jana Platina Phipps, a New York trimmings designer with her own business – Home Contour Collection – sees “nothing at all” sexualized about the baby accessory. “I would definitely buy them,” she said.

Phipps loves the idea that a baby can be fashionable, too.

While working at a textile factory in Italy this week with her 5-year-old daughter in tow, Phipps told ABCNEWS.com, “They are really fabulous!”‘

then they have succeeded in their mission.

Secondly, why the need to expose kids to misery at such a young age? The shoes are for 0-6 month olds and I have yet to meet a baby that was able to keep anything on his or her feet for longer than a few moments at that age.

Little girls have an entire adulthood to experience the joys (increased height, toe cleavage) and woes (blisters, falling, bunions, wasting money) of high heels. Even though they can’t walk in these shoes, it’s the principal of the matter–it’s just messed up.

  • This is frightening. I’m all for fabulous, but this is SO inappropriate for children. Maybe for your bedazzled poodle, but not for a child you hope one day will be a self-respecting member of society. Woof!
